A Winter’s Sight

Snowflakes tickle the tops of the trees,
Snow-kissed, sun missed, blanketed in the frigid snow.
A small transient haze gleams through the clouds,
The white pillowy hillside poured with its glow.
An Antarctic-like waterfall frozen in crystals
Oversees the glacial ice that covers the lake in a sheet.
Engraved into the ice, marks left by sliding shoes,
The dancer’s audience evident - snow prints left by feet.
Sunlight cascades off the sharp icicles,
Kaleidoscope colours against the bleached background.
Droplets of water spill down into the soft slush,
Melted ice becomes water, flowing freely around.
In the rough branches of one frost-bitten tree,
Stare two focused eyes, nearly lost in the snowy scene.
The owl rests at its perch, watching the clouds cover the sun,
Light or dark, day or night? The sky lies in between.
A log cabin sits on the edge of the treeline, fireplace lit,
Hot chocolate in sight, but outside the world’s still tranced in blue.
The chilly breeze cuts through the air, cold endures yet –
Winter’s warmth comes alive in me and you.
